TelecityRedbus helps the Jewellery Channel sparkle online

The Jewellery Channel opens new online market with live TV stream and online bidding facility supported by TelecityRedbus

20 June 2007: The Jewellery Channel has chosen TelecityRedbus to provide the managed hosting, data centre and security services to support its new UK broadcast website.

The website allows visitors to watch a live stream broadcast of The Jewellery Channel’s TV auctions, and bid on every item featured in real-time. Launched earlier this year, the site already has over 100,000 visitors per month, and delivers between 5 – 10% of all sales for the business.

The Jewellery Channel opted to outsource the hosting and management of this critical infrastructure to TelecityRedbus to ensure the uptime and availability of the e-commerce functions of the new site. In addition to hosting the core IT infrastructure, TelecityRedbus is running multiple fully managed servers and high availability firewalls with anti-virus to provide security protection and a failover plan to ensure business continuity.

Lee Northedge from the Jewellery Channel explains: “The success of our website depends on each visitor’s experience; they need to know they can watch our programmes and bid successfully and securely the first time and every time. To meet the necessary levels of infrastructure performance we looked for a provider who had the experience and skills to deliver in a relatively short timescale. We chose TelecityRedbus because of their reputation in hosting and specialist managed services, particularly in security. We felt we could trust them with ensuring the security of our customer data and preventing any hacker or distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that could be potentially very damaging to our business.”

TelecityRedbus supports an intelligent solution that allows the Jewellery Channel IT team to monitor bidding behaviour, and which can, for example, lock bidders out from the system if they fail to pay, or prevent a person from placing multiple bids on the same product.

Northedge continues: “Prior to the launch of the website it was difficult to know when the peaks in traffic would occur, and so what bandwidth would be required to guarantee the website’s availability. TelecityRedbus were able to provide us with a very flexible bandwidth solution, which means we can always match demand for access to the site.”

Media and content businesses are becoming increasingly reliant on their websites for sales,” adds Mike Tobin, CEO of TelecityRedbus. “The quality of the underlying hosting infrastructure services is fundamental to the success of any such organisation. It is these relationships which together create a great experience for the end user. The company’s decision to trust TelecityRedbus with its business critical infrastructure demonstrates that our suite of services continues to impress and convince media and e-retail businesses to partner with us.”
